So I know I have a lot to catch up on blogging. But those posts about Christmas and Tess' birthday, etc. are going to have to wait for now, because I want to share some in progress pictures of my new kitchen!!
For those of you that don't know, my kitchen has white cabinets, white tile floors, and blue walls with a yellow accent wall and yellow trim (not my color scheme - the way it was when we bought it). For a long time I've wanted to paint my kitchen a green to show off the cabinets, etc. and it needed some serious painting to update it! My whole kitchen is dusty and grimy - literally, and gross. It is now the cleanest it has probably ever been!!
So for Christmas this year, my mother-in-law and husband gave me an awesome gift! They were going to pay for me to have a new kitchen, but not only that, they were going to do the work too! Verlyn, my father-in-law, is a handy man and can do many home improvement projects very well, and is great at painting, and so is my mother-in-law. They do lots of stuff to their house themselves all the time.
So we went to Menards and I picked out the green I wanted (after first picking out the green I really ended up hating, so good thing Menards returns paint already tinted). And I picked out tile for a backsplash that they were going to install also. So the painting is done, except the back door and the tile is up on one wall, minus the grout. But here are some before pictures (but after they started filling in holes) and some in progress pictures. The green IS a vibrant and bold green but it's not as bright as the pictures make it seem. Plus the paint was still fresh, so it wasn't darkened up like it is now. I LOVE it! Can't wait for them to finish it tomorrow.

A HILARIOUS attempt at a picture of our gift giver and me. This picture CRACKS me up! |
|
2nd attempt - again this picture CRACKS me up, cause I look like a giant and she a midget. ha ha. |

There we go - 3rd times a charm. Me with my mother-in-law and gift giver, Holly. |

The decorative glass tiles that will be mixed in with the other white tiles....you'll see. |
|
My new green kitchen, now if you see it in person it is actually much darker than this, not as bright. I think it's my flash and the kitchen overhead light combo. |
|
Hard at work. |
|
Painting is done...tile can begin!! Don't you love it?!?! |
|
Tile in progress. |

New tile behind the sink!! Awesome! Still needs grout - but get that done tomorrow. |
|
The first wall of tile done, minus grout! Beautiful! A whole new kitchen! |
Done for tonight, but they were here working from 9:30 am until 8:30 pm. That's a long day of work. So they'll be back tomorrow to finish the tile and grout and any finishing touches, but I'm so excited about it!!

Mom just called downstairs to say you put pictures up. I like that shade of green, and the tile looks really good. Have you just been standing in your kitchen all night admiring it? :)
Actually yes! I still can't believe it's my kitchen. :) I can't wait for the finished product tomorrow, and when I'm "moving" stuff back in, I'm going to be picky at how it looks. I don't want it cluttered any more. I may have to go buy anotehr white cabinet to put that boxed food in.
It looks fantastic!!! Stacey, that tile is the one I thought you were talking about. I have a few sheets of it, too, that I was going to put behind the sink in our main floor bathroom, but needed more. I love it! The green is so crisp and fresh. You will love being in the kitchen. Holly and Verlyn are doing a great job...they can come here next!
it really looks awesome! i can't wait till I have my own house where i can do fun stuff like that!
It looks awesome! And even better in person!
